Licensing

VTScada is distributed as a single installation file. There are no extra modules to be added. Your VTScada license key, a 25-character code, controls which features are enabled. Click the About VTScada icon in the VTScada Application Manager to discover what is enabled under your current license.

VTScada logo images are protected. VTScada will not start if you remove or modify those files. Reinstall VTScada to restore the original images if you disregard this warning.

License Classes

The following is a brief guide to the various classes of license. Contact Trihedral Engineering for detailed descriptions of each class. License terms may change. In the event of a difference between the following and the current license terms, the current terms will have priority.

Development Licenses

Anyone who is creating applications will need a development license. (See following note about VTScadaLIGHT.)

Runtime Licenses

An installation with a runtime license may run an application, but has limited ability to modify or further develop that application.

Demo Keys

Trihedral Engineering provides demo keys to customers who wish to evaluate the software before purchase and to students attending our courses (*). These enable all features, but will shut down after a few hours of continuous use and will expire at the end of 60 or 90 days. (* Students who have a development license should use that, not the demo key.)

A customer who starts to create an application using a demo key, then purchases a development license can continue to build their application using the development license. No further development work should be done under a demo license.

  • The application must be run once under a development license before it can be used on a workstation with runtime license.
  • Changes made to the application using a demo license cannot be applied to copies of the application running a licensed copy of VTScada. This rule applies to both development licenses and runtime licenses.

VTScadaLIGHT

No license is needed to create and run applications using VTScadaLIGHT. You are limited to 50 I/O tags and one Internet client connection. VTScadaLIGHT requires a VPN for mobile access outside your network.

Applications created using VTScadaLIGHT can be transferred to fully licensed workstations.

If running your application with primary and backup servers, all workstations must be using VTScadaLIGHT or all must be using licensed keys. You cannot run an application with a mixture of licensed servers and VTScadaLIGHT servers.

There is a limit of 10 free copies of VTScadaLIGHT per person, site, institution, facility, or product line. Contact Trihedral Engineering for license terms if you require more than 10 copies.

Disable Windows Controls (Kiosk Installations)

VTScada cannot disable access to Windows controls (file menu, close, minimize...) or keyboard commands (Ctrl-Esc, Alt-Tab, and Ctrl-Alt-Delete). This could be accomplished with a Windows logon script. Refer to:
